Fulfill Your Interests and Expand Your Horizons

Our volunteers are the heart of Winters Heritage House Museum. Their energy, time, and commitment help us preserve and share the rich history of Elizabethtown.

Whether your interests are gardening, genealogy, education, or museum interpretation, there are many ways to get involved and make a meaningful contribution. Join one of our volunteer programs or special interest groups and help us preserve the stories of the past for future generations.

Please note:

  • Volunteers ages 16 and up, of all abilities, are welcome.
  • Minors under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian complete a consent form.
  • You may download and print this youth volunteer form or complete one in person.
  • In accordance with Pennsylvania law, all volunteers must complete a background check.

Volunteer Opportunities

Front Desk

Responsibilities may include:

  • Answering the phone and greeting visitors
  • Basic data entry and typing
  • Helping prepare for programs as needed
  • Learning the fundamentals of Elizabethtown and Winters Heritage House Museum history
  • Learning to use the store’s point-of-sale system

Docent

Responsibilities may include:

  • Learning detailed Elizabethtown and Winters Heritage House Museum history
  • Giving guided tours
  • Wearing period costume for special event tours

Seibert Genealogy & Research Library

Responsibilities may include:

  • Staffing The Seibert Genealogy & Research Library for at least two consecutive hours between Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Assisting with member and community research requests
  • Researching topics for exhibits and community outreach content
  • Helping digitize documents, with training provided
  • Improving the storage, inventory, and presentation of on-site books and documents

Data Entry

Responsibilities may include:

  • Basic data entry
  • Scanning paper documents and saving them in digital formats
  • Using Microsoft Excel, preferred
  • Learning to use the Past Perfect program

Pre-school and/or Elementary Story Hour

Responsibilities may include:

  • Helping prepare supplies
  • Assisting on the day of the program

Program times:

  • Pre-school Story Hour: Second Fridays, September through May, except November, at 9:30 a.m.
  • Elementary Story Hour: Various Mondays throughout the school year at 9:30 a.m.

Educational Programs for Kids and/or Adults

Responsibilities may include:

  • Helping plan and prepare activities
  • Assisting on the day of the event

LivEtown’s 2nd Friday Events

Responsibilities may include:

  • Staffing the museum on 2nd Friday evenings
  • Being available for at least two hours between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Helping with kids’ activities

Class Instructor

Responsibilities may include:

  • Leading a class in your area of expertise, craft, or hobby

Exhibits and Special Events

Responsibilities may include:

  • Helping research and/or set up temporary exhibits
  • Following exhibit procedures, including documentation
  • Following branding guidelines when creating exhibit information
